Job Summary:

The Postdoctoral Research Associate (Post Doc) in Science Education works with the Director of the Andrews Institute for Research in Mathematics & Science Education. The Postdoctoral Research Associate position serves to enable an individual with a Ph.D. to continue training as a researcher and gain skills and experience that will prepare them for their research career in academia or elsewhere. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will receive mentorship, research support, and a travel stipend to advance the Associate’s research agenda. The position is for one year, with the possibility of a second year depending on satisfactory performance and available funding.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Assists a faculty member in specific research.
2. Teaches one class per semester, as needed.
3. Collects, compiles and analyzes data.
4. Designs surveys.
5. Participates in research planning.
6. Writes papers.
7. Presents results at seminars and professional meetings.
8. Supervises research assistants.
9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Earned Doctoral degree in science education by August 2024
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, etc.
  • Experience in writing grants.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of science education.
  • Knowledge of K-16 science education.
  • Skill in scientific writing as demonstrated through peer-reviewed publication.
  • Ability to acquire, organize, and analyze accurate data.
  • Ability to work well as a team, using interpersonal, mentoring and communication skills.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
  • Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
  • Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

Work Environment:

  • Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
  • This role is an on campus, in-person position.
  • There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
  • The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
