Job Function

With a focus on promoting a positive client-centered Human Resources division and organizational culture, the Human Resources (HR) coordinator will independently coordinate and implement human resources and administrative tasks. Demonstrates initiative to respond and make minor operating decisions based on knowledge of college and department service model, policies, and procedures. Responsible for administrative, financial and programming activities involving coordination of effort between several parties and departments at all levels.

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Serves as point of contact for the Office of Human Resources; represents the department and College to employees and community members
  • Implement end-to-end hiring processes to ensure a positive experience for candidates and hiring departments
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively at a professional level with others in areas both directly and indirectly related to college business
  • Collect, organize and maintain personal files and records of all materials used for recruitment and employment, including but not limited to candidate applications, credentials, committee interview notes and related documentation
  • Coordinates Assessment test for new hires and college employees
  • Support and assist in new employee intakes
  • Prepares employee postings and coordinates receipt and distribution of application materials
  • Initiates communication with other departments in carrying out tasks and resolving workflow or problems presented by employees and the public
  • Maintains positive contact with outside agencies in carrying out tasks, including verifications of employment, etc.
  • Coordinates and implements the Human Resources’ responsibilities for the Individualized Development Day (IDD) for the college
  • Coordinates the Human Resources’ responsibilities for the service award events which includes the creation and processing of the event materials and the events
  • Serve as a trainer for the HR talent management software and user modules which include but are not limited to applicant tracking modules, training and learning systems and performance management systems
  • Assist with and or deliver Human resources employee training, orientations and or workshops as assigned
  • Process payroll and leave bank information for assigned employee groups
  • Initiates recommendations for change in operating methods to administrators
  • Performs activities related to office procedures, including but not limited to:
    • Answering main Human Resources telephone line and electronic mailbox (humanresources@macomb.edu),
    • Assembling full-time new hire packets and maintaining files,
    • Compiling and maintaining reports and records of the activities relating to HR operations,
    • Properly directing employee and the public inquires,
    • Distributing applications for employment and related materials,
    • Responding to requests for verification of employment
    • Ordering office supplies
    • Rectifying invoices and executive purchase card transactions
    • Responsible for coordination of rooms, programming and catering setup for HR meetings, events and other projects
  • Participates in collective bargaining with various bargaining units as assigned.
  • Serves as an assistant for the negotiation team as assigned
  • Ability to learn and use Ellucian Colleague and Microsoft Office programs including but not limited to Word, Excel and Outlook. May be required to learn and use other software required by the department
  • Sets own work priorities based on the supervisor’s direction or established timelines and practices
  • May coordinate the work of part-time staff as assigned
  • Works collaboratively with other staff and administrators to ensure projects are completed
  • Perform related duties as assigned

 

Education

EDUCATION: An Associate degree or higher, preferably in Human resources, Business Management or and operations.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: One-year related Human Resources experience in an office environment is required. Previous experience in unionized, higher education or public-sector environment is preferred.
