Senior Director Market Research

Job Description

Please note that this position is based in San Diego, CA. Acadia's hybrid model requires this role to work in our office three days per week on average.

Responsible for independently leading the market research department and function to inform and support the strategic commercialization of in-line products and development of pipeline assets in the company's franchise, covering multiple therapeutic areas and indications. Responsible for overseeing all primary market research covering HCPs, consumers, payers, access/reimbursement and patient support services. Effectively and astutely representing CIAO Market Research on cross-functional teams. The Sr. Director will be responsible for planning, directing, leading and integrating primary and secondary market research insights, distilling and reporting of findings and insights to facilitate and develop actionable recommendations that address key business needs and objectives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Be a Strategic Thought Leader and Partner on Cross-Functional Teams
  • Partners closely with marketing, medical, regulatory and other cross-functional team members to identify primary market research needs, clearly define research objectives, determine the appropriate research instrument, and executes market research studies in a cost effective and timely manner
  • Develops, integrates, and communicates actionable insights, conclusions and recommendations, by employing different qualitative and quantitative primary market research methodologies
  • Leads the design and execution of market research with key customer groups, including various healthcare providers, payers, advocacy groups, and patients and caregivers
  • Responsible for all aspects of market research including initiation of the RFP process, vendor selection, study design and methodology, contract execution, budget management, and provides direction on the scope of services to be provided by such resources
  • Supervises the market research team to ensure that all aspects of project planning and execution are appropriate such as coordination, setting time lines, scheduling participant meetings, shaping conclusions and recommendations, presenting interim and final results, and communicating all project progress/initiatives to brand teams, senior management, and/or vendors, where
  • Summarizes the findings into actionable insights to drive and inform key business decisions, brand strategies and promotional tactics
  • Creates clear and concise summary of insights, and effectively presents it to cross-functional partners and senior management
  • Maintains a comprehensive and current understanding of relevant therapeutic markets, by acting as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in areas of responsibility, when
  • Manages external vendors and consultants to enable effective and efficient project execution compliant with relevant Acadia SOPs, including AE reporting
  • Ensures deliverables meet or exceed service-level expectations for quality, timeliness, and
  • Seeks out and analyzes new data views to find new market performance insights
  • Mentor market research team members for professional growth and development

Education/Experience/Skills:

Bachelor's degree in business, management science, market research, or related field required; MBA highly preferred. 12+years of progressively responsible experience in market research (primary research: qualitative and quantitative, and secondary research) and/or similar market analysis in a pharmaceutical environment required as well as in competitive intelligence and secondary data analysis required. Experience leading market research for in-line products required.

Key Skills:

  • Proven ability to lead market research projects related to brand positioning and messaging, market mapping and assessment, demand estimation, TPP testing, target segmentation, launch tracking and competitive monitoring, using traditional and innovative qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Experience leading market research projects in support of a launch
  • Deep knowledge of brand management related to healthcare industry
  • Deep knowledge of lifecycle management (LCM) process, from development stage to post regulatory approval and the commercial analytics required to support the process
  • Must understand key elements of revenue forecasting and Long Range Planning (LRP) process
  • Strong understanding of secondary data and analysis and ability to triangulate insights from primary and secondary data sources
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced team-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated ability to interface/collaborate with other departments to achieve business goals
  • Negotiating skills, specifically with business partners or management and influencing senior-level leaders regarding matter of significance
  • Strong understanding of all common marketing research frameworks and methods with proven ability to lead all phases of marketing research
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical market research data
  • Capacity to translate substantial amounts of data into insights, conclusions and

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, see, talk or hear in a standard office environment and independently from remote locations. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Travel by car or airplane independently up to 10% of the time to attend conferences, meetings and the corporate head office.
