Position Summary

This position serves as a Success Coach for the Path2Purpose program. Success Coaches will be located at either Flagstaff High School or Coconino High School and will report to the Program Director at the Coconino Community College (CCC) Lone Tree Campus. The position will work with underserved high school students on career exploration, life skills, high school pathways to college, future job readiness, college applications and scholarships, and more. The goal of the program is to provide support for a successful transition to a post-secondary institution, degree attainment, and job placement. This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible position. This is a grant-funded position and contingent upon annual renewal of grant. * We anticipate on hiring four candidates for this position.

Salary & Benefits

  • Anticipated Hiring Range: $48,363 - $59,970/annual - depending on education and experience
  • Full Salary Range: $48,363 - $71,577/annual - depending on education and experience
  • Cafeteria Plan: In addition to the base compensation, benefits-eligible employees receive an extra $5,640 per year to put toward benefit costs or to be used as additional take-home pay
  • Paid Holidays: 21 (including a full week off between Christmas and New Year’s Day and over Spring Break)
  • Vacation & Sick Leave: Approximately 23 paid vacation days & 9 paid sick leave days accrued annually

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Supervise, mentor, and lead a cohort of 10-15 high school students a year, with the anticipation of growing the program each year with a new cohort.
  • Regularly meet with program participants throughout the academic year, offering one-on-one guidance, counseling, and group presentations to provide lessons, updates, and support.
  • Creates lesson plans and curriculum for students in cohort.
  • Recruit and retain program target demographic: underserved/underrepresented populations, including male-identifying students, students of color, women in trades, first-generation, and/or with financial need.
  • Lead in establishing the program with the first cohort while concurrently recruiting for the next cohort.
  • Informs students about alternatives, limitations, and possible consequences of academic decisions (e.g. adding, dropping, and withdrawing from courses, change of program, major and/or transfer institution).
  • Provides career advising expertise to students regarding the job search process, interviewing, resume, and all other facets of career planning.
  • Ensure that all program elements are executed correctly and accurately. This includes, but is not limited to, CCC campus visits, parent/guardian workshops, and worksite tours.
  • Coordinate with experts in the local community to host personal enrichment presentations and workshops for students on topics such as recognizing healthy relationships, engaging in your community, mental health awareness, and leadership, and life skills.
  • Gather data and maintain confidential files of program participants.
  • Work with students in identifying high school pathways that result in college credit (e.g. Dual Enrollment, CAVIAT, AP, and Concurrent Enrollment).
  • Act as a liaison between FUSD and CCC.
  • Communicate and collaborate with high school staff and counseling team on progress of students in the program.
  • Advise program participants involving personal and educational issues related to their academic and life goals. Determine or develop a specific course of action or make recommendations or referrals to internal programs and outside agencies if required.
  • Participate in professional development activities to ensure leadership and program development.
  • Educate internal and external staff, faculty, students, and partners on the Path2Purpose program.
  • Assist the Program Director with establishing goals and objectives for the Path2Purpose program.
  • Help with the coordination and implementation of the CCC Summer S.T.E.A.M. Career Camps for rising 6th-9th grade students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

  • Knowledge of student development, career development, academic advising, and retention issues in secondary and post-secondary education.
  • Knowledge of community resources and referral processes.
  • Knowledge in counseling practices.
  • General knowledge of school accommodations for students with disabilities, such as IEPs.
  • Knowledge on college and career readiness skills, such as FAFSA completion, interview skills, resume writing, college enrollment processes, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with groups and individuals of differing cultural or socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Excellent listening skills and the ability to create an inclusive and energetic learning environment.
  • Teaching and presenting experience to high school-aged students and adults.
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge in Microsoft Suite and data-tracking systems.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Proven ability to be a self-starter and collaborative team member.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in education or related field, and two years of directly related experience in student affairs, academic advising, career counseling, or related field within a high school and/or higher education setting; or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Ability to obtain a Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree in Student Development, Counseling, Educational Leadership or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience working as a counselor, teacher, or advisor.
  • Background and knowledge on Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
  • Experience with tracking systems for monitoring student progress and program requirement compliance.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse students.
  • Experience with student activities and leadership development programs.
  • Experience with retention and/or college access programs.
  • Bi-lingual is a plus.
