Position Description

 

DEFINITION:
Teaches courses in Psychology to college students through lecture, demonstration, and laboratory exercises, handouts, responding to questions and testing. The course load may include but is not limited to General Psychology, Developmental Psychology, and Abnormal Psychology. This is a full time Psychology Instructor position and requires the faculty member to teach at least 18 hours per semester.
 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
  • Receives general supervision from the Chair, Social Sciences
  • May occasionally receive general supervision from full-time instructional staff
  • Exercises no supervision.

 

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

 

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
 

Essential Functions:
  • Provide classroom instruction to students
  • Prepare lesson plans and utilize a variety of pedagogical strategies to engage student intellectual curiosity
  • Develop and prepare supplement reading materials beyond assigned textbooks
  • Create and administer a variety of graded assignments to assess student academic comprehension of the subject
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and academic progress
  • Communicate regularly with students and respond promptly to emailed questions or concerns
  • Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area and in accordance with CFCC policies and guidelines
Other Important Functions:
  • Collaborate with colleagues to positively contribute to the academic environment of the college
  • May need to teach on multiple campuses
  • Participate in professional development activities
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned

 

Qualifications

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:
  • Blackboard Ultra or similar LMS
  • Classroom and instructional techniques and procedures
  • Current trends, research and development in the academic discipline
 

Ability To:
  • Interpret and apply college goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully, both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
    • Making observations
    • Reading and writing
    • Communicating with others
    • Operating assigned equipment
    • Handling varied tasks simultaneously
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following:
    • Standing or sitting for extended periods of time
    • Operating assigned equipment
    • Handling varied tasks simultaneously
  • Maintain mental capacity, which allow the capability of:
    • Making sound decisions
    • Responding to questions
    • Demonstrating intellectual capabilities
 

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
 


Minimum Education/Training:

  • A Master’s degree in Psychology from a regionally accredited college or university
Or
  • A Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Psychology.
 


Minimum Experience
:

  • None

 


Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills
:
  • Prior experience in teaching at post-secondary level is preferred

  • Candidates are required to submit OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS for all degrees obtained prior to their first day of work or hire date. If highest level of education is High School diploma or equivalent, proof of completion is required.

 


  • Candidates who have obtained their education outside of the US and its territories must have their academic degree(s) validated, at their own expense, by an outside credential evaluation service as equivalent to the Baccalaureate or Master's degree conferred by a regionally accredited college or university in the United States.

 


  • To claim veterans’ preference, all eligible persons shall submit a DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, to Human Resources during the application process. Human Resources will verify eligibility.
