Vice President of Commercial Insights, Analytics & Operations.

Job Description

Please note that this position is based in San Diego, CA. Acadia's hybrid model requires this role to work in our office three days per week on average.

Drives the implementation of novel and/or best in class research and analytic approaches to address complex multi-factorial business challenges and drive results for our strategic brands. In collaboration with team members including commercial, medical, cross functional partners and vendors, manages research and analytic problem-solving to address strategic questions, generate timely and actionable insights and recommendations, and secures management action through influential communication.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leads insight generation as well as distribution and alignment across our various departments.
  • Presents both insights and strategies to both the commercial leadership team as well as Acadia's executive leadership team, inclusive of our CEO and CFO.
  • Supports the sales, marketing, market access and distribution, and patient support services teams, among others, in understanding market dynamics and determining the best course of action.
  • Works closely with all commercial leadership partners to understand their department's needs and designs both research and analytical programs to provide the insights needed.
  • Challenges the status quo with data-driven insights that help Acadia learn and grow .
  • Leads a cross-functional team of data analysts, market researchers and commercial operations team members supporting all commercial teams.
  • Synthesizes key learnings across all of these disciplines to help Acadia develop a well-rounded understanding of our market place.
  • Leads the commercial analytics team in support two commercial franchises currently, with the potential to add additional products and franchises, based on development-stage compounds and potential in-licensing opportunities.
  • Works with and recommends appropriate external partners to supply data, analytics, research and additional support for our business (Examples include: IMS, Symphony, ZS & Associates, Axtria, market research partners, AI/machine learning partners, among others)
  • Ensures all work coming from the department has been appropriately quality checked to ensure potential errors are spotted and corrected in advance.
  • Partners with marketing, medical, sales and market access to investigate and answer key business questions related to ACADIA products and the markets in which they compete, as well as our customers and competitors.
  • Supports commercial planning efforts by providing objective, in-depth information about current and future markets & competitive forces and oversees forecasting methodologies and analytics.
  • Drives long-term analytics strategy planning and ensures data-related policies, procedures and processes are in place to address complex business needs.
  • Ensures analyses are integrated and provide objective in-depth understanding of markets, product performance, customers and competitors.
  • Ensures plans are in line with brand strategy and that planned research employs appropriate methodology and delivers actionable insights that address strategic business questions and provides brands with competitive advantage.
  • Leads all aspects of business analysis, managing analytics professionals in support of assigned therapy areas.
  • Accountable for Commercial operations including the following
    • aFleet management, sample management, sales supply management, field-based reporting and fulfillment of materials, among other related responsibilities.
    • Sales operations including IC plan development and execution, as well as size and structure of field teams, targeting and field analytics
  • Ensures up-to-date competitive intelligence and assumptions are shared with all appropriate commercial teams.
  • Identifies decision support needs and existing gaps for internal customer decision makers, ensures integration of all appropriate data into analyses and provide holistic, and clearly communicates deliverables that address business questions and drive business results.
  • Yields insights and recommendations to guide high-level decisions affecting product development and in-licensing opportunities that provide pipeline brands with competitive advantage.
  • Oversees advanced analytics for product campaigns that span across all channels.
  • Supports the brand teams in developing/optimizing promotion, developing campaign strategies, and transforming data into a story built on insights and actionable recommendations.
  • Ensures that the team is staffed with qualified, highly motivated talent.
  • Ensures goals are aligned and deploys department resources accordingly; adapts deployment as needed in support of ACADIA's evolving needs to ensure that financial and operational objectives are met, while ensuring that corporate standards of excellence, company policies, compliance and ethical business practices are upheld.
  • Ensures that corporate standards of excellence and compliance are upheld and performs all Company business in accordance with all regulations (e.g. EEO, FDA, OSHA, PDMA, EPA, PhRMA, SCIP etc.) and Company policies and procedures.
  • Through analytics, identifies new high-impact areas of opportunity for the business.
  • Works with business partners to understand key business problems and areas of opportunity
  • Develops a Center of Excellence for forecasting methodologies and work with commercial Teams to ensure consistently high quality program forecasts.
  • Translates primary and secondary insights, including market research into key, long-range patient-based forecasts.
  • Leads and coordinates with IT the development and reporting of performance metrics and data analysis
  • Cultivates a high-performing team through the creation of a practical vision, specific goals and concrete metrics to achieve success in terms of revenue and access, meeting changing business demands and delivering consistent results in challenging environments.
  • Develops and mentors team members to support individual and team success.
  • Oversees and guides a variety of personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, merit recommendations and promotions.
  • Serves as a representative of the organization to both internal and external groups and ensures information communicated is accurate and up to date regarding organizational activities and industry trends.
  • Ensures department's adherence to company policies and quality system requirements, as well as other legal and regulatory directives.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Education/Experience/Skills:

Bachelor's degree in marketing, health care, business administration or related; Master's degree preferred. A minimum of 20 years of progressively responsible experience within in Pharma Industry with a working knowledge of drug development process, including activities from pre-clinical through marketing of a product, anatomy and physiology and principles of disease, rationale for treatment algorithms and business knowledge of Pharma companies and their business practices. Eight or more years directly and progressively responsible experience related to project management and at least 5 years in a senior leadership role. Requires significant experience in one of the following: Competitive Intelligence, Strategy, Consulting ROI, Modeling or Market Research. Requires prior experience in successfully developing and executing strategy through expert understanding of the market and industry

  • Demonstrated success in managing large-scale cross-functional projects.
  • Expert knowledge in capturing relevant information systematically, analyzing statistical data and identifying key issues patterns and trends.
  • Deep expertise in current and future competitive drivers in the marketplace as well as functional expertise in how to use intelligence to develop competitive strategies and long range forecasts.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of global healthcare systems and markets
  • Experience building and maintaining complex market assessments and forecast models
  • Ability to create and communicate a clear vision among direct reports, effectively aligning resources and motivating teams to achieve goals.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English in verbal, written, and presentation form.
  • Ability to travel approximately 30% of the time both domestically and internationally.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, see, talk or hear in a standard office environment and independently from remote locations. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Travel by car or airplane independently up to 10% of the time to attend conferences, meetings and the corporate head office.

In addition to a competitive base salary, this position is also eligible for discretionary bonus and equity awards based on factors such as individual and organizational performance. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance, and location.

Salary Range
$269,000-$336,100 USD
