Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Program Director for University Development is an important partner in the strategic management of the University Relations Development program. Working with the Development Leadership team that includes the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Development for Schools/Colleges/Unis, the Assistant Vice President for Central Development, and the Assistant Vice President for Advancement Services, the Program Director is responsible for managing designated projects in support of the Development Strategic Framework, including managing timetables, communication, training, documenting procedures, and project management.

This individual will maintain fundraising database platforms as well as ongoing training in partnership with the Prospect Research & Management team. They will also serve as a key liaison with Blackbaud in developing reporting and training unique to the user needs

The Program Director will partner with the Development Leadership team as well as the University Relations Human Resources team to develop orientation and onboarding materials, training, and resources for new development staff as well as identify training needs, develop plans, and execute future training programs.

This individual will also manage ongoing quality improvement efforts, support content development, manage communications and logistics for Development-wide meetings and training, and monitor employee adoption of core UMD development business practices.

This position will also develop materials in partnership with the Associate Vice President for Development in staffing the Development Committee of the University of Maryland College Park Foundation Board of Trustees.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience:
  • A minimum of five years of related experience, preferably within higher education and/or the fundraising/advancement field
  • Demonstrated project management skills, with experience driving organizational or team initiatives and projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong skills in building and sustaining processes, procedures, and workflows.
  • Strong writing, editing, research skills.
  • Ability to establish internal and external professional relationships.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Ability to think proactively and work independently.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and appropriately both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to use online databases and other resources to conduct research, including identification of best practice.
  • Demonstration of tact, discretion and good judgement in handling sensitive and confidential information.

Preferences:

  • Understanding of best practices for development and fundraising.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Experience with using and maintaining CRM database data, for example BlackBaud, Salesforce and/or Ellucian Advance.
  • Strong knowledge of data analysis & reporting methodologies.

Salary commensurate with education and experience with a base salary starting at $91,680.

This position allows for a combination of in-person and telework days as approved by the supervisor. Guidance regarding hybrid work is subject to change at any time to align with operational or business needs.

Physical Demands

This is a sedentary position involving extensive use of desktop computers. The position does occasionally require walking some distance to attend meetings and events. Ability to lift and transport boxes up to 25 lbs. for events, move tables/chairs, etc. Availability to work evenings and/or weekends as necessary for special events and other development activities.
