Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence & Security (ARLIS) – a University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) under the UMD Vice President of Research (VPR) seeks to hire a Data Engineer Infrastructure Specialist to support the Acquisition and Industrial Security (A&IS) Mission Area. We seek talented professionals who can work with a team to support the research, construction, implementation, test, documentation, and maintenance of socio-technical solutions that provide highly impactful capabilities for the special operations and intelligence community. Specifically, much of our work focuses on policy and implementation relating to manufacturing, data and knowledge engineering, model-based systems engineering, digital supply chains, and library science.
The Data Engineer Infrastructure Specialist’s responsibilities include:
- Designing, building, and testing computational systems to support multidisciplinary research
- Developing written guidance and best practices for stakeholders to leverage computational tools
- Ensuring compliance of computational tools to stakeholder needs and security requirements

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in data science, computer science, statistics, or related fields.
Experience:
- Experience deploying and managing computational infrastructure, tools, and databases.
- Experience using Apache Spark as part of a data-analytics pipeline.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong communications, presentation, and writing skills.
Must be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance. If selected, you must meet the requirements for access to classified information and will be subject to a government security clearance investigation that includes criminal and credit history checks, as well as verification of U.S. citizenship, birth, education, employment, and military history.
Preferences:
Preferences:
- 2+ years of experience managing cloud-based computational infrastructure (e.g., Microsoft Azure) and/or using data analysis tools (e.g., Databricks).
- Experience managing computational infrastructure to support production-level applications.
- Experience delivering solutions for U.S. Government and contractor customers.
- Experience with agile workflow and continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD).
- Active security clearance.
Additional Information:
Salary range is $58,656-$134,925.
