POSITION SUMMARY:

A financial aid advisor provides oversight for federal, state and local financial aid programs. Reviews eligibility and performs standard financial aid duties such as verification, loan processing, return of funds, and academic progress evaluations. Ensures awards are accurate and equitable. Provides data reporting and technical assistance as it relates to the student information system. Assists in daily operations and has the ability to quickly and accurately perform data entry. Provides counseling to students, families and the community through various methods.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
  • Maintain current knowledge and ability to apply internal policies, procedures, and programs as well as all federal and state regulations; including reporting and laws governing financial aid programs. Attend trainings and conferences as necessary to keep current knowledge.
  • Performs technical duties related to reporting, processing, storing, and maintaining data for financial aid programs. Participates in the development and implementation of data management systems and procedures as appropriate, as well as provide technical assistance. Assist with the collection, management, and reporting of data in accordance with the objectives of the position.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information. Maintain strong analytical and organizational skills. Excellent communication, interpersonal, writing, and problem solving skills are fundamental.
  • Implement, coordinate, and manage one or more financial aid program and/or services as assigned.
  • Carry out projects through the completion with minimal supervision. Ability to excel in outcome-based and dynamic work environment.
  • Counsel and advise students and parents regarding financial needs, opportunities, academic success and eligibility. Provide aid-related information and services to students, faculty and staff and external constituents. Verify eligibility for assistance, review and package aid for students. Address and articulate policies and procedures developed by the Financial Aid Office to ensure the equitable treatments of all students receiving financial assistance.
  • Responsible for COD reporting including the reconciling and managing of reports that indicate variances, rejects, and missing responses. Administer and assist with the reporting of the Pell and Direct Loan and reconciling requirements.
  • Develop and conduct financial aid presentations and community outreach activities, requiring availability during evening hours. Provide information regarding financial aid, admissions and advising. Collaborate with various campus offices.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent knowledge and skills.
  • 1 – 3 years of position related experience.
  • Requires a working knowledge of policies and procedures associated with the institution, as well as federal, state, and local programs. Knowledge of Federal tax laws and a high level of math competency. Ability to research and interpret various financial aid regulations.
  • Exemplary customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Experience with a student information system, or related software.
