Student Aid Advisor
Job Description
This position is an undergraduate financial aid counselor that assumes the responsibility of administering institutional scholarships, outside scholarships, and federal/state aid working with students to find funding sources to reduce their Bursar balance. This position administers the responsibilities of one or two federal programs, as well as state programs.
Essential Functions (Responsibilities):
- Counsels returning undergraduate students building a financial aid package for all enrolled terms including institutional scholarships, outside scholarships, and federal/state aid if applicable. Following scholarship policies and administering all federal and state regulations for appropriate federal and state funding.
- Administers a minimum of at least one federal aid program overseeing all federal regulations associated with that program.
- Administers a minimum of at least one state aid programs overseeing all state regulations associated with the program(s).
- Maintains and updates our website, internal documents, policy and procedure manual, offer letter, and communication to students surrounding student’s aid eligibility.
- Reads, interprets and enforces all regulations and changes affecting Federal, State and Institutional Financial Aid.
- Processes financial aid documents in a timely manner.
- Prioritizes projects and keep electronic files and processes organized.
- Participates in student recruitment, on-campus/off-campus events associated with funding opportunities for college.
- Maintains confidential positive communication and accurate records, maintaining privacy mandates required for financial aid data.
- Attendance will be required at trainings and be able to adapt to the ever-changing regulatory environment at both the state and federal levels.
- Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned.
Required Qualifications
Equivalent Education/Experience:
- Associate degree in business.
- Must have 3 – 5 years experience in financial aid or closely related field.
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
- Thorough knowledge of federal and state regulations concerning financial aid
- Extremely proficient with Microsoft Suite.
- Knowledge concerning higher education financial aid industry.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
- A collaborative team player, who can coordinate work effectively with employees, team members, and outside vendors.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- High attention to detail, demonstrated practice of establishing effective priorities and meeting deadlines.
- Strong customer service with a can-do attitude and strong interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Working knowledge of federal and state financial aid programs.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach ,stoop, kneel and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and keyboard. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
