The Center for Broader Impacts (CBI) at the University of Notre Dame is part of a strategic effort to simultaneously enhance Notre Dame Research’s efforts to support competitive research proposal development and contribute to the overall societal impact of the University. Specifically, CBI focuses on collaborating with ND faculty, campus units, and external partners to design, implement, and evaluate effective broader impacts opportunities for a wide range of audiences.
Reporting to the Center for Broader Impacts Associate Director, the Broader Impacts Specialist will play a pivotal role in supporting researchers at Notre Dame to expand the public reach and amplify the societal impact of their work. The quantity and scale of research proposals has grown exponentially since the launch of CBI in fall of 2022 and is continuing in an upward trajectory in alignment with the University’s Strategic Framework.
The Broader Impacts Specialist will advance the mission of the CBI by working closely with the Associate Director and the Faculty Director to improve Broader Impacts plans by:
- consulting with researchers about broader impacts possibilities,
- providing direct support to researchers to develop and review their broader impacts plans,
- maintaining and developing key campus and community partnerships to strategically connect researchers for mutually beneficial broader impacts planning and implementation,
- providing high-level documentation and tracking of broader impacts implementation, and scheduling larger-scale broader impacts efforts of proposals as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree or advanced certification beyond Bachelor’s
- 3 to 4 years of relevant work experience
Skills:
- Familiarity with grant proposals and processes
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to engage in multiple projects at once
- Experience maintaining and developing campus and/or community partnerships
- Ability to problem-solve
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Excellent organizational skills
- High emotional intelligence
- Experience handling sensitive information
- High level of confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred:
- Experience working in higher education, particularly with researchers
- Knowledge of externally-funded sponsors including the National Science Foundation
- Grant writing experience
- Program design and implementation experience
- Additional 3+ years of professional experience
