Engineer II - Project Engineering (Hybrid Schedule)

Primary Purpose:

Plans and designs distribution systems with voltage levels typically 34.5K and below. Determines need, size, location and timing of system development to balance economic, environmental, social and regulatory constraints and reliability needs

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports the development of innovative solutions to improve the efficiency of electrical distribution systems.
  • Ensures electrical distribution systems comply with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Supports emergency response work as requested including immediate and extended restoration efforts driven by weather and other system failures.
  • Ensures compliance with codes, standards, and design, operation, and maintenance requirements.
  • Provides a detailed design review of internal or external technical documents.
  • Performs field inspections for overhead and underground electric facilities on public and private utility systems.
  • Performs various distribution calculations, including cable pulling, voltage drop, and pole loading calculations.
  • Assists in the preparation of overhead and/or underground engineering calculations and analysis.
  • Performs area wide voltage and power factor studies, recommending findings to distribution engineering and operations.
  • Prepares and reviews reports on system performance and other operational metrics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Hybrid Schedule:

  • Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow the employee to work onsite three days per week and remotely on the remaining workdays.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or Professional Engineer (PE) certification in addition to five (5) years of engineering experience or an Advanced degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. Required
  • 5 years - Related engineering experience.
  • Power System Engineering - A subfield of electrical engineering that deals with the generation, transmission, distribution, and utilization of electric power, and the electrical apparatus connected to such systems.
  • Engineering Design - A series of steps that engineers follow to find a solution to a problem.
  • Power System Analysis - Performing calculations and simulations to verify that power systems, including the system components, are correctly specified to perform as intended, withstand expected stress and are protected against failures.
  • Project/Program Management - The process of leading the work of a team to achieve goals and meet success criteria at a specified time.
  • Energy Distribution Systems Management - The process of managing and operating the most economical energy distribution systems or networks to meet defined performance goals.
  • Requirements Management - The process of documenting, analyzing, tracing, prioritizing and agreeing on requirements and then controlling change and communicating to relevant stakeholders.
  • Specifications Development - Understanding the context, stakeholders and requirements of a project, and developing measurable criteria by which projects can be evaluated.
  • Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Management - The systematic approach to maintain health and safety at occupation and protect the environment.
  • Regulatory Compliance - Ensuring an organization's adherence to laws, regulations, guidelines and specifications relevant to its business processes.
  • Data Analysis & Modeling - The process of inspecting, cleansing, transforming, and modeling data with the goal of discovering useful information, informing conclusions, making predictions, and supporting decision-making.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certification.

SDG&E offers a competitive total rewards package that goes beyond base salary. This position is eligible for an annual performance-based incentive (bonus) as well as other merit-based recognition. Our Incentive Compensation Plan (ICP) is one way we recognize employee's' work to help us execute and deliver on our strategic priorities. The target for this position is an award of 15% of base salary and is based on individual and company performance for the plan year.
