The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Instructor, Computer Science, Foothill College.

The Foothill - De Anza Community College District does not have a remote work policy.  All employees are expected to be available to work in person and on-site per the requirement of the department.

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE: 

 Under the direction of the Dean of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Division, the instructor is responsible to teach a variety of college-level courses in data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning and other courses in the computer science department. Motivate and encourage students to be successful. Support program planning and develop goals and metrics for student learning outcomes.  Support student success in STEM by encouraging the use of STEM Learning Resource Center as well as college-wide academic supports. Support the campus community in their understanding of artificial intelligence and machine learning, and the impact of these emerging fields on education and society. Day, evening, online, on-campus and off-campus assignments may all be a part of this position. Teaching assignments include in-person instruction at the Foothill campus and online instruction, and may include instruction at the Sunnyvale Center and high school campuses.  Faculty are expected to engage in professional contributions on the Foothill campus throughout the academic year. 

 Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, service on district and/or college committees, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor.  Instructors also have the opportunity participate in campus extra-curricular activities.  

 Duties also include sharing institutional responsibilities of value to the department, division, college and/or district, including actively participating in the spirit of shared governance. These responsibilities may include recruitment and hiring; class schedule preparation; budget development; providing input for performance appraisals; mentorship; general oversight of support staff; student recruitment and retention; curriculum/program development and evaluation; program review; club advising; committees; accreditation; articulation; and other duties as assigned.  

 In addition, instructors are expected to maintain a commitment and sensitivity to and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, cultural, disability, religious background and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff, and uphold a commitment to integrating equity practices in the College's Instructional Programs. 

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

     Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.  Master’s in computer science or computer engineering OR Bachelor’s in either of the above AND Master’s in mathematics, cybernetics, business administration, accounting or engineering OR Bachelor’s in engineering AND Master’s in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration OR Bachelor’s in mathematics AND Master’s in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration OR Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND a master’s degree in information science, computer information systems, or information systems OR the equivalent (NOTE: Courses in the use of computer programs for application to a particular discipline may be classified for minimum qualifications purposes, under the discipline of the application.) 
 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

 Experience with data science and machine learning.

HIRING RANGE: $71,934.90 - $133,543.60 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant’s verified education and experience.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Full-time, Tenure-track, 10-months per year
