Summary of Purpose: Oversee all aspects of outreach and development to support the KHS mission and provide leadership to ensure the overall success of KHS Annual Fund, Capital Campaign, Special Events, Volunteer Program, Marketing and Communications.
Duties (Essential Functions):
Oversee strategic fundraising, marketing and communications plan and related tactical plans to achieve the organizations strategic goals
- Construct strategies and execute plans to increase visibility and philanthropic support, including campaigns, external communication, fundraising, and prospect development goals with emphasis on achieving and exceeding established standards and performance metrics
- Personally manage a portfolio of foundation, major, and leadership gift donors and prospects. Take timely and strategic steps in moving prospects through the major gift cycle of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
- Support President & CEO in establishing and managing key donor relationships
- Provide support to the board in fundraising activities that include development of materials, relationship management, and ongoing donor cultivation
- Guide the implementation of the campaign tactics to achieve campaign targets and success. Ensures campaign plan and timeline are maintained, implemented, and adjusted as needed
- Collaborate with staff to ensure the campaign plan and timeline are high priorities
- Oversee capital campaign tracking and create standard and ad hoc reports on campaign activity
- Facilitate the implementation of capital campaign communications and messages with leadership and the marketing team
- Establish volunteer leadership relationships and support volunteer engagements that includes the campaign committee
- Communicate and elevate the organizations impact and brand to increase visibility and awareness, and ultimately revenue
- Serve as an external spokesperson for the organization, building relationships to elevate engagement
- Responsible for creation and adherence of yearly budget of department revenues and expenses
- Ensure the development and fostering of strong and collaborative internal and external relationships to facilitate the identification and implementation of strategies that support strategic plan and capital campaign objectives
- Create a Culture of Philanthropy across all departments and provide leadership to staff and their programs.
- Serve and collaborate as a member of the executive team and attend board meetings
- Supervise, support and lead the PR/ Marketing, Development and Volunteer Departments
- Participate in Leadership Team and Outreach Team meetings
- Other duties as assigned by direct report
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Capital Campaign management preferred
- Minimum of five years of professional fund development experience of various giving types, with demonstrated ability to successfully solicit major gifts.
- Must demonstrate a track record of personally cultivating, soliciting and securing gifts, memberships or grants of $100K and above.
- Minimum of three years of professional communication and public relations experience, demonstrating the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, building strong relationships
- Experience with constituent databases preferred (i.e. Raisers Edge)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organization skills and the ability to thrive in team environment
- Leadership and management skills with ability to work effectively with all constituents
- Ability to represent the Kentucky Humane Society in a professional manner in accordance with the American Professional Fund Raising Code of Ethics
- Must possess a valid drivers license and clean driving record and be willing to drive KHS vehicles
- Accept, support, and represent KHS core values, programs, policies and procedures
- Background Check required
Education:
- Bachelors degree from a four-year accredited university required
Physical Demands/Working Environment
- Individual will have extended periods of sitting, talking and listening.
- Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, walking and standing on a regular basis while performing job functions.
- Occasionally lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to or exceeding 50 lbs.
- Includes working in an indoor desk environment.
- Includes interacting with animals in a kennel/shelter setting (indoor/outdoor) with potential for exposure to allergens (including but not limited to pet dander, dust, peanut butter), zoonotic diseases, and cleaning chemicals
