Summary of Position

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Mathematics Education at the Assistant Professor level, starting in the Fall semester of 2025. The department is housed in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences and offers undergraduate and graduate programs in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, mathematics education, and statistics.

The responsibilities of the position include (1) teaching mathematics content and pedagogy courses for elementary, middle, and high school pre-service teachers, teaching doctoral level mathematics education courses, and teaching undergraduate mathematics courses for majors and non-majors; (2) advising undergraduate majors in mathematics education, and advising graduate students in mathematics education through the completion of their dissertation studies, (3) developing a successful research program that includes collaborative work with colleagues and graduate students and active pursuit of external funding to support research activities, and (4) providing service to the department, college, and profession through committee work and engagement with external partners.

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics offers programs in pure and applied mathematics, mathematics education, and statistics at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The current mathematics education faculty have research interests in teaching methodologies and theories of learning in undergraduate mathematics, geometry, proof, algebra, as well as the area of mathematics teacher development. Department faculty have many opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and research across UNH, with the Joan and James Leitzel Center for Mathematics, Science and Engineering Education, and with the K-12 community in both urban and rural settings. In addition, the university offers professional development opportunities and research collaborations for new faculty in STEM Education to build upon the University’s comprehensive vision to strengthen the K-16 pipeline in STEM. Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in mathematics education or a closely related field, along with a strong background in mathematics. Some postdoctoral training is preferred. We are particularly interested in scholars with a focus on elementary and middle school mathematics education to balance the research and teaching expertise of current faculty. A range of methodological expertise is valued. We seek applicants who have a commitment to high quality teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Candidates should present strong evidence of developing research, and high potential for conducting research and other scholarly activities in mathematics education.
