Summary of Position

The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, & Criminology invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Criminal Justice Studies position starting August 2025. We seek applications from sociology and criminology generalists. While we are open to areas of specialization, we are particularly interested in candidates who teach and conduct research in courts, law, race and crime, victimology and/or critical criminology.

The successful candidate is expected to teach courses in his/her area of specialization, as well as sociological research methods and quantitative analysis, and contribute to core courses in both Criminal Justice Studies and Sociology majors. Our standard teaching load is 3 courses (12 credits) per semester. Additional responsibilities include participating in departmental and campus-wide committees, participating in departmental activities, and maintaining an active record of scholarship and professional development.

Our students come from diverse socio-economic and educational backgrounds, with a high percentage of first-generation college students. By the time Keene State College students complete their undergraduate experience they develop critical thinking, creative inquiry, intercultural competence, civic engagement, and commitment to well-being that will serve them as active citizens and lifelong learners. Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

A PhD, preferably in Sociology; PhD in Criminology will be considered with demonstrated sociological foundation (M.A. in Sociology) and willingness to teach from a sociological perspective. ABD considered with confirmation from dissertation committee chair that Ph.D. will be in hand by time of appointment.  Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to innovative undergraduate teaching and have an active scholarship agenda.

Salary Information

Salary is based on the prevailing Collective Bargaining Unit Agreement; current rank minimum for for an Assistant Professor is $75,230. Subject to change with anticipated Collective Bargaining Unit Agreement. Salary is complemented by a comprehensive benefits package.
