Description

College Chemistry instructor with teaching duties in General Education College Transfer courses. Responsibilities also include active participation in departmental work on curriculum design, assessment, and andragogy/pedagogy. This is a 9-month teaching position. Teaching assignments may be for day, evening, and/or weekend classes. Classes may be assigned at on-campus and/or off-campus teaching sites in addition to online environments. Teaching at high school locations may be required of this position.


Examples of Duties

Provide effective instruction to students online and/or in the classroom by preparing for each learning experience, providing supplemental materials to enhance textbooks and lessons, and using effective evaluation methods to determine student performance.

If the discipline involves laboratory instruction, demonstrate, endorse, and enforce student adherence to laboratory safety protocols.

Support student learning outside of the classroom by holding regular office hours, providing information about additional resources outside of class, and responding to emails and phone calls in a timely manner so as to promote student success.

Support curriculum development by participating in the creation and evaluation of courses, curriculum, and programs; participating in program advisory committees; attending departmental, school-wide, and college-wide meetings; and serving as backup for other faculty members.

Maintain teaching and work environment including equipment and supplies, overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment.

Stay current in Chemistry and teaching methodology by meeting or exceeding all institutional professional development guidelines, participating in professional development workshops and seminars, and participating in professional organizations and reading journals in the teaching and Chemistry disciplines.

Maintain accurate records such as attendance, grades, information for accreditation, and other important data and submit reports according to college policies.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Degree Requirements:
A Master's degree (or higher) in Chemistry or a closely-related field is required. If the Master's degree is in a closely-related field, the applicant must have at least 18 graduate hours in Chemistry

Non-transferable Courses: Bachelor's degree in a related field required.

All coursework must be from a regionally accredited institution.

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and procedures of academic and institutional program development in relevant field
  • Current trends, research, developments, and resources in relevant field
  • Federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations as they relate to students and teaching
Ability to:
  • Create effective instruction for delivery both online and in the classroom while maintaining compliance with ADA standards.
  • Communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Work effectively in diverse teams, both within assigned department and cross-functionally across the college
  • Interpret and apply college goals, policies, and procedures
  • Maintain any relevant equipment and supplies related to instruction

Enviromental Conditions:
Classroom environment; work closely with others; may be exposed to hazardous laboratory substances.

Physical Conditions:
Frequent walking, standing, and sitting for prolonged periods of time.

Frequent communications, verbal and written.

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
