Responsibilities*
Seeking a motivated organized individual to serve as research support staff for Neuroscience laboratory involved in investigating the neurobiological substrates of learning and memory using genetically engineered mice. Laboratory employs a wide range of techniques including molecular biology, electrophysiology and behavioral analysis. Candidate will be expected to perform technical, administrative, general laboratory functions. The candidate will be expected to coordinate maintenance, breeding and genotyping of transgenic mouse colonies. Collect mouse tissue samples, isolate DNA from mouse tissues, and analyze DNA by PCR. The candidate should be familiar with routine molecular biology techniques, which may include RNA isolation, RT-PCR, Additional experience with biochemical techniques, including protein purification, Western blotting and immunohistochemistry is expected. Additional responsibilities will include: order and maintain lab supplies, materials and equipment; unpack received orders, and arrange returns of damaged or incorrect orders. Maintain a clean, safe, and functional laboratory. Enter data into computer in Excel or other database format. Assist the PI in preparing reports, abstracts, and publications of data. In addition, the candidate may be responsible for training and supervising undergraduate work study students.
Required Qualifications*
Senior Level: Bachelor's degree and 1-2 years experience required.
Intermediate Level: HS Diploma or Assoc Degree and 1-3 years experience required. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Desired Qualifications*
B.S. in biochemistry, molecular biology, neuroscience, or a related biological science. One to two years of previous experience working in a research setting with transgenic mice. A successful candidate will be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and inquisitive, with good organizational and communication skills. A candidate should also have a willingness to learn new techniques, in particular behavioral analysis of mice. Experience with common computer programs including Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, LaserGene, and Graphpad Prism is a plus. Ability and willingness to learn new techniques. Excellent communications skills and ability to work as part of a team is required.
