Job Description

Position Summary

Victoria College is looking for a Career Services Intern. The Career Services Intern will provide a crucial role in supporting the Career Services department by assisting with various tasks and providing support to students in their career development journey. This position offers an opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented student to gain valuable experience in a professional setting while contributing to the success of their peers.
This is a grant funded position and thus will follow a semester by semester schedule. The start date of the position will be Jan. 21, 2025.  Candidates will be expected to work during the following semesters:
Spring 2025 (Jan. 21- May 16) Fall 2025 (Aug. 25- Dec.19) Spring 2026 (Jan. 20- May 15)

Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist students with accessing career resources, including online job boards, resume templates, and career exploration materials.
  2. Support the planning and execution of career-related events, such as job fairs, workshops, and employer presentations.
  3. Conduct research on internships, part-time jobs, and volunteer opportunities for students and maintain a database of available positions.
  4. Help students navigate career assessment tools and provide basic interpretations of assessment results.
  5. Assist in maintaining an organized and updated physical and digital resource library, ensuring resources are easily accessible to students.
  6. Collaborate with the Career Services Coordinator in creating and updating content for the department's social media platforms and website.
  7. Aid in collecting and analyzing data related to student engagement with career services programs and initiatives.
  8. Serve as a point of contact for students needing to follow up on career exploration appointments and assistance with job searching. 
  9. Perform general office duties such as answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, and maintaining office supplies.
  10. Participate in other tasks as assigned. 

Qualifications

Required:

  1. Currently enrolled as a student at Victoria College or Victoria College alumni continuing their education at another institution. Enrollment is required
  2. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service-oriented approach.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with online platforms and social media.
  5. Basic understanding of resume writing and job search strategies preferred. 
  6. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  8. Reliable and punctual with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
      9. Commitment to maintaining a positive and welcoming environment for all students

Preferred:
  1. Knowledge of career development resources and services.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle controls, key pads, etc. Will be required to sit and reach with hands and arms as well as, sit, stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds while loading office supplies and paper. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, some color vision, and the ability to adjust focus from documents to computer screen. Hearing of light to moderate sound is required by this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
