Position Description

Career & Professional Development is seeking to expand our pool of adjunct faculty to teach various courses related to career exploration, professional development, and job readiness.

Our department offers a range of specialized courses encompassing job search strategies, career exploration, and fundamental professional or job skills. These courses include Resume Writing, Interview Preparation, Salary Negotiation, Discover the Career that’s Right for You, Basic Computer Skills for Today’s Workplace, and more.

Courses are delivered online, hybrid, or in-person across various campuses and community locations within Wake County. Primarily, we are in need of instructors with daytime availability.

*This is a candidate pool* Specific courses may or may not be available at this time; however, after a review of qualifications, applicants may be contacted in the future. Adjunct faculty positions provide quality, effective instruction in assigned courses on a part-time, temporary basis.

Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions)

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary job functions herein described.

  • Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner while assessing student needs

  • Prepares thoroughly for each instructional hour

  • Performs routine administrative functions of the classroom including enforcing student attendance policy, ensuring accurate attendance documentation, communicating regularly with students, staff and supervisor and ensuring students access to virtual and seated classes, etc.

  • Fosters a safe and supportive learning environment ensuring student needs are met

  • Utilizes various learning management system (LMS) platforms such as Blackboard and MSTeams for delivery of virtual instruction. Learns and implements technology to enhance instruction in seated and online environments

Uses assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching

Maintains communication with curriculum developer and supervisor to keep courses up-to-date and appropriate

Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment

Stays abreast of most current teaching methods and technology in the classroom

Attends professional development opportunities when possible

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Able to use a wide variety of teaching methods to promote learning

Be innovative, creative, motivated

Ability to exhibit good interpersonal skills and work well with others

Able to maintain records accurately and be able to meet deadlines consistently

Strong organizational skills

Able to perform normal duties with minimum supervision

Knowledge of and familiar with technology and software including, computers and web-based resources such as Blackboard and MS Office products

Able to perform normal duties with minimal supervision

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Demonstrates resourcefulness, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sincere interest in helping students reach their maximum potential

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or 5+ years experience in specific career field or skillset

One year of post-secondary teaching or training experience

Professional computer skills including usage of MS Office products and presentations

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, including reading, writing, and speaking

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both Spanish and English, including reading, writing, and speaking
