EOPS Counselor/Instructor (Tenure-Track)

Job Description

DESCRIPTION

Napa Valley College is seeking an individual with demonstrated instructional skills to join an outstanding team of faculty, staff, and administrators to provide high quality programs and services to our district, our community, and most importantly, our students.

This full-time, tenure-track faculty position works a 175-day faculty work year, in accordance with the district/faculty agreement, beginning August 2025 (fall semester).  Appointments are contingent upon Board approval.  Initial salary placement is $65,071 - $84,644 annually, with future steps to $119,657.  Placement on the salary range is commensurate with education and experience.  The college offers a fringe benefit package, including medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, employee assistance program, and CalSTRS membership. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Student Affairs, the Dean of Enrollment Services, and the Director, Financial Aid: 

 

  • Provide personal, academic and career counseling to EOPS students;
  • Develop educational plans for EOPS students;
  • Develop and teach counseling courses;
  • Plan, coordinate, and develop the following program activities including but not limited to: recruitment, intake, eligibility determination, advising and counseling, instructional support, and academic field trip activities of the EOPS Program;
  • Assist with any development/revision of curriculum;
  • Assist in preparing project reports;
  • Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with various community agencies;
  • Assist in preparing outreach materials;
  • Participate in appropriate counseling and faculty/staff meetings and college-wide student retention and success efforts; and
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Assignment may include a combination of day, evening, weekend, off-campus classes, and online or other technology-supported instruction. All contract and regular faculty are required to adhere to contractual obligations, meet assigned classes, maintain regular office hours, assist and advise students, participate in division activities and appropriate college committees, including regular faculty meetings of the department, division and College. JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications 


Education: 

 

Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work or career development,  

 

OR 

 

the equivalent. If you do not possess the stated minimum educational qualifications as stated above and are seeking consideration on the basis of equivalency, a Request for Equivalency Review form must be submitted at the time of application. 

 

AND  

 

EOPS counselors hired after October 24, 1987, shall:  

 

  1. Have completed a minimum of nine semester units of college course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages OR 

 

  1. Have completed six semester units or the equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling field-work courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages AND 

 

In addition, an EOPS counselor hired after October 24, 1987, shall have two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages. 

 

All degrees must be from an accredited institution. 

 

Experience: 

 

  • At least one year of full-time (or two years part-time) experience counseling and/or teaching at a community college or equivalent level
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and race/ethnic background of community college students

 

Title 8, USC, Section 1324-A requires verification of eligibility for employment in the United States. 

Desirable Professional Competencies 

 

  • One year of EOPS Counseling experience
  • Demonstrated experience using technology to deliver instructional and counseling services
  • Experience teaching in a learning community
  • Ability to implement strategies to involve students in the learning process and to address the needs of diverse learning styles through the use of a variety of learning modalities
  • Ability to develop cooperative relationships with other departments, programs, and institutions
  • Effective written and oral communication skills

A foreign transcript evaluation is required any time foreign course work is used to meet minimum qualifications and/or salary placement, even if the foreign transcript has previously been accepted by a different college or university in the United States.
