Summary
  • Under the direction of the Vice-President of Academic Services, the Dean of Instructional Services is responsible for educational programs, including summer, day, evening and off-campus offerings, traditional and technology-mediated instruction, credit and non-credit course offerings, contract education and community service classes. Develops and implements operational policies and procedures, manages budgets, maintains faculty records, provides direction to faculty and support staff, assists in scheduling classes and making assignments, evaluates faculty, oversees program contracts, and performs related work as required.
  • This is an educational administrator position responsible for a range of services that form the core of the college’s instructional program.

Education and Experience
Requires a Master’s Degree.
Requires a minimum of one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to instructional services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, direct, and participate in a full range of responsibilities relating to instructional services that include but are not limited to:
  • Development and delivery of the curriculum.
  • Preparation of class schedules.
  • Development of college catalog, and publications related to the educational programs of the college.
  • Initiate, develop, and implement new programs.
  • Program review.
  • Prepare budgets and monitor expenditures.
  • Participates in the hiring of faculty and staff.
  • Supervises and evaluates faculty and staff, including coaches.
  • Hear faculty and student grievances.
  • Research, collect, assemble, analyze, and maintain information; prepare and present reports.
  • Serve on college committees and represent the District at assigned local, regional, and State meetings.
  • Provide leadership to all areas of instructional services, including athletics.
  • Fulfill administrative responsibilities in compliance with the District’s mission, goals, policies, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Foster cooperation by encouraging and maintaining open communications and by supporting the implementation of shared governance.
  • Exercise judgments, which are dispassionate, fair, consistent, and equitable.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in education and to principles of ethical behavior.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Experience with California community colleges (California Education Code and Title 5 Regulations.)
  • Experience with participatory governance structures.
  • Experience with accreditation expectations (ACCJC Eligibility Requirements and Standards.)
  • Experience with development and review of curriculum and instructional programs.
  • Experience with grant writing, implementation and reporting (Perkins 1-C, CTE Transition, Title III.)
  • Experience with management of athletic programs.
