Purpose/Summary

GENERAL SUMMARY
The Community College of Denver has been designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will be a well-rounded instructor responsible for teaching private instruction courses in string instruments.
Duties and Responsibilities
PRIMARY DUTIES
- The instructional assignment will include private instruction in string instruments. It is preferred that the successful candidate be able to teach other music courses in person and online in alignment with department needs and the candidate's areas of expertise.
- In addition to conducting lessons, the job includes class preparation, student evaluation, program level assessment, student advising, attendance and participation in faculty music recitals and other music events.
- Use of Open Educational Resources (OER) in their courses.
- Attendance at department meetings and response to emails from students and supervisor within two business days is required.
- Participation in discipline/department decision making processes and work regarding curriculum, program development, scheduling and other matters are also expected of all Music instructors.
- Responsibilities also include maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education (Required/Minimum): Master's degree in String Performance, Music or a related Master’s degree and at least 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline to be taught.
Experience (Required/Minimum):
- Experience teaching private lessons and running a lesson studio.
- Recent experience working with Latinx/Hispanic, African American, Native American and other racially/ ethnically, socioeconomically minoritized students in the classroom is preferred.
- Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom. The candidate will also demonstrate knowledge of the implications of the Hispanic-Serving designation for institutional, departmental and instructional practices.
- A demonstrated ability to teach underrepresented and diverse student populations at a community college or baccalaureate level institution is required. The ideal candidate will show evidence of utilizing a diverse canon in their classroom as to address the equity and achievement gaps in higher education.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities(Required/Minimum):
- Knowledge of all levels of student string repertoire, and pedagogy.
- Ability to perform and teach across genres.
- Ability to sight-read and accompany string students on piano is preferred, but not required.
- The ideal candidate will have expertise in culturally responsive teaching in the arts, which addresses equity gaps within courses and classrooms.
